  • Health & Wellbeing

Looking after your health is just as important as sorting out housing or money. When you feel well – physically and emotionally – it’s easier to focus on building your independence.

From getting registered with a GP and dentist to finding free mental health support or just learning simple ways to stay healthy on a budget, there are services out there designed to help care-experienced young people.

At Orchard Therapeutic Outreach, we’ll make sure you’re connected to the right healthcare, build daily routines that support your wellbeing, and guide you to services that can help if you’re struggling. Whether it’s managing stress, planning healthy meals, or getting the right support if you’re a young parent, we’ll walk alongside you to keep you safe and well.

    Stay well

    • Register with a GP and dentist: You do not need photo ID or proof of address to register with a GP in England. Do this early to access prescriptions and referrals.

    • Mental health: NHS Talking Therapies let you self-refer for free counselling/CBT for anxiety and depression. Most areas also have 24/7 urgent mental health helplines.

    • Text support: Shout is free, confidential 24/7 text support — text 85258.

    • Healthy living on a budget: We’ll share ideas for sleep, cheap nutritious meals, fitness on a budget, and support around alcohol/substances.

    • Pregnancy/parenting: Start for Life and Healthy Start (food & milk card) can help with practical support and costs.
