  • What You Can Expect

    Your First Day

When you join one of our homes, you’ll be welcomed by your Keyworker and Co-Keyworker. They’ll guide you through the first steps and make sure you have everything you need to feel at home.

    You’ll:

    • Be shown around the house, including fire exits and safe points

    • Meet your housemates and support staff

    • Get to know your bedroom – your own private space you can make your own

    • Be given a welcome pack with essentials and personal care items

    • Have a space in the kitchen just for you

    Settling In

    With your key-worker, you’ll:

    • Go through the house guidelines together

    • Complete a simple risk assessment so we can keep you safe

    • Talk about what helps you feel comfortable and supported

We encourage you to raise any worries or questions straight away – there’s always someone to listen.

    Your Voice Matters

During your stay, you’ll be part of how the home is run. You can:

    • Share ideas about meals, activities, and routines

    • Raise concerns easily through our clear complaints process

    • Get extra support from staff if things feel difficult

We’ll guide you to work through challenges and build the confidence to handle them. Independence isn’t about doing everything alone – it’s about learning, step by step, with the right support.

    Therapeutic and Engaging Activities

We understand that part of the healing process involves fostering fun and enjoyable experiences. Our teams ensure that young people not only receive high-quality care but also engage in activities that promote well-being, personal development and social integration. Activities in the home include arts and crafts, cooking, football matches and yoga, giving young people the opportunity to express themselves and develop new skills. We also organise outdoor trips to local parks, zoos, museums, as well as holidays around the UK and, where appropriate, abroad. These experiences allow young people to build lasting memories, enhance their social skills and, most importantly, develop their independence.

    International Trips

At Orchard Therapeutic Care, we view our young people as part of our extended family. Every year, we organise an exciting international trip to show our appreciation and trust. These trips serve multiple purposes:

    • Enjoy and Achieve: They offer the chance to enjoy an adventure with friends, gain independence and build trust.
    • Contribute Positively: We engage in cultural activities that foster positive citizenship and an appreciation of local traditions.
    • Economic Understanding: Young people have the opportunity to learn about local currencies, exchange rates and the cultural value of money.

These trips provide not just the enjoyment of travel but also the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, supportive environment.
